What to visit in Florida?
I am planning a mega road trip in Florida, only places worth visiting. I came up with this list:
Tallahassee
Jacksonville
Panama City
St. Augustine
Pensacola
Daytona Beach
Tampa/St. Petersburg
Naples
I already went to Miami and its surrounding areas along with The Keys. I know nothing about the above cities/towns but I keep hearing about them. What is worthy of a visit? Assume price is not a factor.
Not sure why you skipped Orlando – that’s tourist Mecca (or maybe that’s exactly why.)
Pensacola/Panama City might be skippable right now…oil is starting to make an appearance on the beaches (not anything like further west, but still)
Tallahassee doesn’t have a whole lot to offer frankly, unless you’re a ‘Noles fan
Can’t think of much of anything around Naples offhand.
Tampa/St. Pete has several pro/semi pro sports teams, a VERY nice aquarium, loads of great beaches, the Hard Rock casino and Busch Gardens
Daytona has beaches, the Speedway (and the Daytona 500 Experience) and (during Bike Week) loads of bikers. Plus, the Space Coast isn’t far south of there (final 2 shuttle missions this year).
Jacksonville/St. Aug (the two 20 miles apart) have beaches, pro/semipro sports, World Golf Village (and golf courses out the wazoo including Sawgrass and its infamous 17th), 3 dog tracks (2 with poker rooms), Jax Zoo and all sorts of touristy places in old St. Aug (historical and otherwise).
Midway between Daytona and Jacksonville is Marineland, an old-school tourist spot.
